Star Trek Fanart for Rougewinter

spock and kirk
I've abandoned LJ to just update my Facebook. If you just want fanart, you can check my fanart at mushroomsushi.tumblr.com. Some of you have already added me on Facebook (I update more often there because it's easy). Just PM me and I'll give you my name hihi.

I am pretty much into deep in the Star Trek fandom, having finished TOS and with the new movie Into Darkness out, I am happily in love with my Kirk/Spock. ♥ I've read every fic imaginable, even those from the old 70s fanzines. Grandpapi of slash indeed.

But I made these for rougewinter's birthday before acads eat me alive!

The ever lovely and gorgeous rougewinter gave me Star Trek: TOS and their movies and I've been devouring everything like a renegade Tribble. I am a new fan: obsessed!

Things I've learned from my Star Trek The Original Series marathon:

1) The Enterprise needs to invest in seatbelts
2) They also need to invest in high quality uniforms. Kirk's shirt in particular gets ripped to shreds so easily. ...Not that I'm complaining
3) EVERYTHING IS THE TRIBBLES EPISODE AND NOTHING HURTS
4) Kirk gets different blonde women every episode, but he is obviously in a committed, obsessive and slightly abusive relationship with the Enterprise
5) Scotty is that happy-go-lucky, eccentric uncle everybody loves
6) My favourite episodes are Spock-centric because the dialogue always wins! I also love episodes that are just about the crew
7) Bones is such a failure with women. Gotta love his dumb-ass grins though
8) I am so attracted to William Shatner as Capt. Kirk and it's not even funny anymore. HE CAN GET IT ANYTIME, ANYWHERE. LOVE HIM, NEED HIM, WANT HIM, ETC
9) Every episode without Chekov hurts my soul
10) Uhura is so hot
11) Sulu is just so adorable!
12) How many times must Kirk have an evil twin/replica?
13) Wtf was that Pike episode, that was some effed up ending
14) I'm always surprised when I see characters wearing revealing clothing. Made me remember that in the 60s they were a bit more daring with fashion
15) On a serious note, I love how anti-war Gene Roddenberry's vision of Space is, and how the Enterprise is so multiracial. Women get to have high rank too! It's amazing and ahead of its time. You can see it in every episode. The Enterprise is about exploration and discovery, not to conquer other worlds. Considering the time it was airing the US was in a lot of strain (Vietnam War, the Civil Rights Movement, Women's Rights, etc.) then you'll realize how Star Trek was really ahead of its time.

Favourite episodes: The Trouble with Tribbles, The Galileo Seven, The Court Martial, The City on the Edge of Forever, The Corbomite Maneuver, Miri, Space Seed, The Devil in the Dark, Amok Time, Mirror, Mirror, Journey to Babel, A Piece of the Action, Patterns of War

Most WTF episode: The Menagerie I and II. I don't get why critics fall over this episode, it had the most disturbing message lol. Oh and Squire of Gothos. Probably the most annoying villain in history.

I love seeing and understanding the allure of the grand-daddy of all slash fanfiction (SPOCK/KIRK FOREVAH). Which all culminated in the WRATH OF KHAN, which made me cry green tears of Vulcan blood. No wonder they got death threats that time; Even I felt like writing harshly toned letters even though 1) I know that Spock lives and 2) It's not the 80s anymore, lol

I leave this post with a look back at one of Leonard Nimoy's finest moments, his music video of the Ballad of Bilbo Baggins. Cheers!

I made two Sherlock/John and Mycroft/Lestrade comics for rougewinter and jougetsu. I really need the help of a Britpicker who can quickly check my dialogue (especially for Mycroft, I find it hard to write in his voice) and tell me if the comics make any sense. I want to post this on the Sherlock community and in tumblr and I just want to make sure if everything's fine.

Help please? I would appreciate it so much! <3 I'm also planning on making more comics at the moment too, this time possibly with more chibi nudity/sex, haha. (I'm thinking something like "what turns Sherlock or John or Lestrade on, because I am HIGHLY ORIGINAL OKAY)
intense chase scene
(I actually posted this in my Facebook last December and I totally forgot about LJ. I am a silly girl.)

Omg the Hobbit was SOOOO GOOOOD. I was afraid that it wouldn't have the same ~feel~ but it was SO HILARIOUS and I had so much fun. I'm gutted that I have to wait another year!
1) Can we please discuss the the badass motherfucker that is Radagast. He simply did not give a shit. True hippie, child of the earth, move over Snow White, haters are pressed.
2) Hot dwarves. My mind still can't comprehend hot dwarves
3) I think I sobbed when The Shire theme played, so many feelings. My friend Earle and I were clutching each other throughout the whole movie. Though he wrung my left arm in excitement when Galadriel showed up being the boss that she is, I am still injured to this day (jk)
4) Elijah Wood has made a pact with the devil, it's the only obvious explanation
5) Klaine: "Thorin is a tsundere." No.
6) MARTIN FLAWFREEMAN IS STILL FLAWFREE, AS USUAL. HIS BILBO IS SUPERB. I love him so.
7) "Tangina, rumarampa lang si Galadriel! (Fuck, Galadriel is just strutting like a model!" - Earle
8) Dayum Richard Armitage why so smouldering
9) Best quote: "What enemy?" - poker faced Saruman

CHOOSE YOUR FAVE DWARF! Team Bombur 4lyf

I was thoroughly entertained that I did not realize the length of the movie, honestly. I really felt that Pete Jackson made it for the fans, there were just so many references from the books, that's why I loved that he took the risks. I do agree and I'm a bit miffed that they're extending it to three movies, I want to see Smaug and the battle at the same film, but Pete Jackson and co. are assuring us that everything will make sense and I believe them ♥

Also I am now obsessed with Richard Armitage and Thorin. Damnit, I LOATHED Thorin in the books, but they told more about his story in Erebor and I really felt for him and his quest.

Sherlock Manga!

Thanks to my beloved sm16:

SCANSLATION OF THE SHERLOCK MANGA, DOWNLOAD HERE

It's just the first couple of pages but here are my thoughts

1) Sherlock looks like a manga SEME. I cannot
2) John looks like an uke. He also looks more depressed than Martin Freeman.
3) "What is this feeling...this throbbing in my chest." - John
4) JOHN CANNOT OPEN HIS HEART
5) Wow, Lestrade is hot
6) "Oh god, yes" doesn't translate well in Japanese... "Mochironda."

An Excerpt from Mark Gatiss' introduction on a BBC Sherlock reprinting of "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes:

...The Adventures was everything I'd hoped for and more. At each story's heart, though, lay the story of a touching, unspoken friendship between two men who couldn't be more different. The practical, upright, redoubtable Watson, and the ethereal, cold and arrogant Holmes. I loved them both from the moment I read 'To Sherlock Holmes she is always the woman', instantly gripped by the possibility of romance, the melancholy hint of loss.

From what I understand from this passage (and I had to read it over again), Godtiss really ships Holmes/Watson. I second-guessed myself and thought that he meant Sherlock/Irene, but he says "I loved them both from the moment" and that passage was written in Watson's Point of view. Ugh I wish he could've wrote A Scandal in Belgravia instead of Moffat, I think he'd make the tension and jealousy quite interesting!

(Also, Gatiss totally had posters of Jeremy Brett and Basil Rathbone in his room, what a fanboy I CANNOT)

Also from my bb sm16 linked me to the MANGA ADAPTATION OF A STUDY IN PINK:

1) DEAD
2) BLUSHING SHERLOCK
3) WINKING SHERLOCK
4) "MOTTO MITAI?" "MOCHIRONDA" --> THEY MADE IT SOUND GAYER THAN IT ALREADY IS
4) I SWEAR I'VE READ THIS YAOI DOUJINSHI IN IKEBUKURO BEFORE
5) I SEE WHAT YOU'RE DOING JAPAN, KEEP IT COMING SO WE CAN SEE YOUR DEPRAVED GAY PORN

The Author is Dead?

penises
Hey bbs, I've got a question for all of you, and I'd be grateful for your honest insights on this issue.

Is it possible to separate someone's work from the person who made it? Does the whole "author is dead" concept by Roland Barthes really apply, and if you can really distinguish the two, is it the right thing to do in the first place?

You see, in a lot of instances I think that I can separate the author from their creations. I mean of course I can't COMPLETELY separate the two, it isn't as clean as slicing a cake in the middle and giving away the other half. But at the same time, I know how to appreciate or find meaning in a work of art without associating it with the creator's personal life or philosophies. It worries me though.

Take for example: Steven Moffat. He's a major douchecanoe, I think we can all agree, but I don't understand how some Doctor Who fans think that he "ruined" the series. I actually really like how he writes episodes and make them interconnected into one huge storyline, it makes me feel really involved. Of course I despise how he treats his main female characters (River Song is my fave but Trollfat can be such a creep when he's talking about her), but sometimes he also makes very interesting ones, both in both Doctor Who and Sherlock. With Steven Moffat being a dick lately though (deleting his twitter because he couldn't handle the hate, let's be real) I feel like I can appreciate his stuff, flaws and all, while ignoring all his other antics. I've been linking his articles here before and yes, his interviews make me want to cut his balls. I just wish he can shut the fuck up and let Godtiss do the talking, but at the same time it's good that we know how much of a prick he really is.

[edit] Linked to me by epithalamium: Apparently Amanda Abbington (Martin Freeman's wife) has received death threats for defending Moffat. Hate Moffat all you want, whatever, BUT LEAVE AMANDA ALONE, FUCKING ASSHOLES. Also I'm all for criticising Moffat, but from what I understand he's been receiving threats too and he's been cyberbullied away from Twitter. What the fuck.

GOD I HATE THIS FANDOM. How Doctor Who and Sherlock can inspire so much rage, I cannot

Another example is Orson Scott Card. I read two of his books, Ender's Game and Cruel Miracles, and I absolutely love them. They move me. He's big on sci-fi and exploring themes such as interactions between the human race and an alien species and how we can understand each other even with that huge divide, etc. And THEN later on I find out he's this fundamentalist SUPER homophobic Mormon who spews the most ridiculous, hate-filled bullshit. I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT. He wrote all these stories about understanding the "other" and the "oppressed" and he's actually one of the oppressors. He makes me sick to my stomach.

Ugh. This really bothers me though because does this mean that I'm a hypocrite? That I'm turning a blind eye on someone's flaws just because I am too in love with their creations? Does it matter that I still like their work, or will this only justify their behaviour? Am I enabling them by taking pleasure from their work? You can imagine how torn/guilty this makes me...

You may think negatively of Barack Obama and his policies, BUT DAYUM MICHELLE IS SUCH A CATCH. The US Pres is the luckiest bastard and he knows it.

Honestly, I can't have Mitt Romney as a US President. The Philippines being a staunch US ally, they will surely use Philippine troops to "help" in another war. And with the way the Republicans have been treating women, POCs, and immigrants...I'm legit worried about my relatives living in the US, not to mention that we're also processing our papers for our citizenship (it'll take a long-ass time, and might not even happen, but still). I can't have that.

Dear Benedict Slumbersnack,

Please stop talking. You are a perfectly decent man (I hope), but your Moffat is showing.
