Contrary to popular belief, Japan is not all about mecha, samurai, ninjas, and lolis. It's not all about anime.

However, that does not stop me from buying random shiz, for myself and for other people. I swear to god, BOOK-OFF will be the death of me. They sell manga for only 105 yen, and the Book-off near our uni has an entire huge basement dedicated to books written in English. They even have cheap art books asdfghjkl; Most people spend on food, others spend on shopping. I splurge on books.

Everything is expensive in Tokyo, but if you convert anime merchandise and books in peso and then compare them to prices back at home then they're really cheap. Plus they have anime merchandise of ANYTHING. I have yet to see the used panties vending machine (and I don't really want to, anyway), but they do sell cookies featuring anime characters, and life-sized pillows with underwear-clad girls printed on them. Lol Japan.

STAR TREK PREMIERE NIGHT



So I was moping around because according to my f-list I am the last person who hasn't seen it yet, orz. I decided to go to Shinjuku with friends and to eat at an all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu. Suddenly, I saw a huge crowd and THE USS ENTERPRISE gleaming from afar! There was a huge poster of Star Trek, and I immediately wet my pants with glee.

BEFORE I KNEW IT, I SAW JOHN CHO (Sulu), ZACHARY QUINTO (Spock) and KARL URBAN (McCoy) on the red carpet. In the flesh!!!11 I was squealing, but the rest of the Japanese were deadpan because they're not well-known actors. However, they started screaming when they saw X-Japan members. Lol. MEANWHILE I WAS ALL "YOU BITCHES DON'T KNOW ABOUT MY STAR TREK! OUTTA MY WAY!!!"

4. Last weekend we had a Japanese Cultural Day where we made ikebana, origami, calligraphy, and tried on kimonos. I was asked to be the female kimono model, which was embarrassing, but so worth it. After that, we held a costume party at the dorm, which ended up pretty...wild. xD

A while ago I was looking at photos from beatlepics and I suddenly formed a list in my head of the places I NEED to go to before I die. It is simply imperative:

1. Palawan, Philippines. Almost everybody and their mothers have been to this beach paradise. Palawan is said to have the best beaches in Southeast Asia, and all the photos and stories about caves and coral reefs and fishies make me yearn to go there. I CAN'T EVEN SWIM AT ALL and yet it has always been my dream to escape from urban troubles and stay there for at least a week!
2. Liverpool, England. Well, I really want to go to the U.K. in general to meet online friends, but another one of my reasons is to go on The Magical Mystery Tour. That's right, after seeing that journal entry I had this sudden and compelling desire to visit The Beatles museum, Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields, The Cavern, and to just simply make out with John Lennon's statue. I-It's not wrong to want that, right? Right?
3. The Museum of Modern Art, New York. As an art student who obsesses over paintings in her spare time, I think that it is highly important that I actually get to see and experience the paintings I've memorized by heart and felt a connection to. I know that when I actually see The Persistence of Memory and The Starry Night something inside me will keel over and die in happiness.
4. Middle-Earth New Zealand. Actually I want to retire in New Zealand, to be able to experience leaving my house and just witness a fine representation of beauty of the planet Earth every single day of my life. That would be freaking awesome.

I have loads of places I want to go to, all wonderful and striking and important, but these are the five places that I really dream about a lot right now. What really depresses me sometimes is that there is always one thing that hinders me from reaching my dreams: MONEY. Living in a third world country you could say that I've grown accustomed (or resigned) to just fantasizing about places I only read in books and the internet. Sometimes I envy how lucky people are to get to actually just live there (especially people from Europe...they can just walk down the street and see the Louvre, etc. etc.) This is why I make it a point to visit all the best places I could here in the Philippines, so that I'm sure I've experienced my country first before exploring new terrain. :3

So. Ranting and crying over things just make me feel awful and guilty afterward, so I decided to put my best foot forward and try to keep things light. Sorry for the random, f-list. :(

Anyway, Marcel shared to me a school project made my students of his friend, who's a teacher for kids. The project was to make a Children's Storybook, with illustrations. Needless to say we were both laughing our asses off because we could NOT get over the SURPRISE PLOT TWIST ENDING (Take note, it's supposed to be a children's story. I cannot stress it any further.)

This is truly a reflection of the times, a sick homage to Twilight and Simple Plan, or both. Le sigh.

Note: I'm not mocking the kids who made this. Just the whole...ridiculousness of the story. I'm like, what? Seriously?

It amazes me that these cartoons were all hand-drawn, with none of the easy technology that defines our "flash" cartoons in Cartoon Network/Nickelodeon nowadays.

So now I present to you My Top American Cartoons, in no particular order. This is not a list of THE BEST OF THE BEST, take note. They are the shows I've loved personally and have very fond memories of. ♥

In our first game Cloud dated Tifa because we simply loved her, but we tried dating everyone else for kicks. The date with Yuffie was sweet. When Cloud dated Barret however, we felt strangely ill.

BUT ALL I CAN THINK ABOUT WHEN I SAW THIS PICTURE WAS THAT "SWEET JESUS DAMN THIS IS WHAT WAS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN. BARRET IS FUCKING HOT. Also, Cloud looks good in tight purple. Hajime no Ippo Season 2 Episode 1 ♥

This episode excites me so much (I think I just screamed at my computer screen while watching the opening song), but at the same time it's tugging at my heartstrings and allowing a feeling of dread -- here Miyata is back in Japan again, trying his best so that he and Ippo can have their epic match at last.

But I'm really so nervous for him because of certain circumstances. *shakes fist at the heavens* I won't spoil you, but events are making me nervous. Watching Ippo's devotion and sheer idolatry towards Miyata is heart-breaking, too. In his head Miyata is still the Best Rival Ever (I bet Sendo feels miffed until now), but in truth the gap between them is wide, and Miyata still has to catch up.

That's probably why I find their rivalry so refreshing -- for once the handsome, brooding rival of the easygoing protagonist is the one struggling to seek the hero's acknowledgment. Ippo is already established as strong and he wants to be even stronger; he also wants to take Miyata to the top with him.

Five Dvds (more than ten hours) of The Beatles goodness, from Beatlemania to the Break-up. Granted, I'm still in Chapter 4, which is still their TWINKIE stage, and already I'm dreading the inevitable shit that will come later.

Seriously though, you know the Beatles concert in The Palladium? The girl with the messy short hair who was going insane and screaming "JOOOHN! JOOOOOHN!!!" with tears in her eyes? That's me. I can totally identify with that crazy bitch. Watching the Beatles Anthology makes you euphoric, obsessive, even if you're decades too late. But you feel like you get the hype, anyway. Like you're in the height of Beatlemania. *snerks* This is why kids my age don't really get me...nor do I get them.

My favourite part so far is when the Beatles went to France. They were expecting snazzy hordes of French girls but were instead greeted by what George Harrison described as "gay-looking French guys shouting for Ringo". I LOL'd. And the guys were like smothering the band, trying to kiss their cheeks. I loved it. ♥

(Meanwhile, I can't seem to find A Hard Day's Night anywhere, not even in torrents. ;__; I only watched it in Youtube, for chrissakes. Help? Even though most of you probably don't get what the fuck I'm talking out. D:)

Meanwhile my siblings and I have spent the break playing Left 4 Dead (I ship Zoey x Bill, Louis x Francis) and watching Dvds. My brother is a fresh graduate so this is really his bum period, but my sister and I have to go back to work and school, respectively. Not to mention I have this ...thing that's been bugging my head since forever, plus homework. Le sigh.

A HARD DAY'S NIGHT

I recently watched this movie; I used to ignore it because I thought the Beatles in their Twinkie years were lulz. Lo and behold! I swear to god, I am drowning with glee. While I like The Beatles songs more during their later years, dig John Lennon's signature glasses and their subsequent hippie looks, I found myself squealing along with the hyperventilating girls in this movie. Teenage girls nowadays fangirl over the Jonas Brothers (ick), but my heart goes to men with similar haircuts and tuxedos who are all either really old or dead, yay!

Paul is obviously the cutest with his boyish looks, and George is easily the most handsome and the haircut suits him better, while Ringo is the funniest (he ends up owning the whole movie). On the other hand, John is comfortable being the leader of the group, and he is charming, savvy, and not afraid to say or do things that were scandalous back in the old days. Plus he is fucking hot.

(I FEEL LIKE I'M BETRAYING MY DEVOTION FOR HIPPIE!JOHN LENNON, BUT I THINK I SORTA KINDA LIKE TWINKIE!JOHN LENNON and want to sleep with him, I mean BALLS FUCK. And another thing: everyone knows I obsess over the old, wrinkly types, but now I AM IN LOVE WITH A DEAD MAN. It's kinda wrong, but I everyone else I know has mancrushes on him anyway. ...So I guess I'm safe?)

While I was laughing my ass off at their crazy antics, it was still quite heartbreaking to watch. In A Hard Day's Night you see the foursome goofing off, singing to each other, laughing at each other's jokes, running around being boys and HAVING FUN. They were such the best of friends, and it was clear to see.

I braved both Divisoria AND Quiapo for some Christmas shopping. I got two shirts, two pairs of pajamas, and gathered a bunch of CDs. Damn, those two areas are a gold mine. If you're strong enough to face the stench, heat, and crowds of people, you will be greeted by a lot of fun stuff. You name it, Divisoria has it.

Quiapo, on the other hand, is a great example of a Paradox. Quiapo Church is always full and there's a huge screen outside showing the procession to the streets. Right next to the church is a noisy marketplace (if you remember your bible, you'll know that Jesus detested the marketplaces near the temple; that was the time he went all ballistic and stuff). The marketplace sells candles, flowers, random trinkets, and herbal medicine by "quack" doctors. Also outside the church is a lane of fortune tellers, who dabble in tarot card reading, palmistry, and offer manicure/pedicure services while you get your fortune told.

I had an amazing haul from Quiapo; most of the stuff I got are movies I already watched, but I wanted to have my own copy. I got Edward Scissorhands, Infernal Affairs, Wall-E, The Fifth Element, The Last Emperor, and Full Metal Jacket. I nabbed two DvDs I've been looking for the longest time: Ran by Akira Kurosawa and Blade Runner featuring Harrison Ford. My plan for the Christmas break? Stay at home, watch movies, and work on my art gifts for you lovelies. ♥

For minnow_53. :) I never really expected that the "I'm in Love with a Geek Boy" Series would stay and grow with me through the years. ♥

But I have no skill at crafts whatsoever, so I don't really know how to make the props. I can have to costume done, however. ;_; I really want to cosplay just once, before I become extremely busy during my last year of College OR even at least before I graduate. It's either Katamari or Kino from Kino no Tabi or some unattractive extra from a random anime. Damn.

I never knew the idea of cosplay could bring all my insecurities to the surface ._.
